Jaunty but gory horror comedy Knights of Badassdom affectionately sends up the nerdy world of live action role-playing games – or LARPs – as three friends played by Steve Zahn, Ryan Kwanten and Peter Dinklage accidentally conjure up a demonic succubus during a medieval fantasy weekend in the woods. The fact that the bloodthirsty succubus has taken the form of the heart-sore Kwanten’s ex-girlfriend (Margarita Levieva) only adds to their troubles. Clumsily edited, the movie is very uneven in tone – perhaps because of the three-year post-production hell experienced by its makers between shooting and release – but the spirited cast emerge from the jokey carnage with dignity, if not all their body parts, intact.
